The First Sound Mark Registered in China

On May 14, 2016, the first sound mark was registered in China by China Radio International (CRI). The sound mark is the start song of CRI's broadcasting program, and is 40 seconds long. CRI began to use this sound mark since July 1, 1998.

CRI's sound mark is composed of the sounds of horns, trumpets, string music, and the human voice "China Radio International".

Sound marks began to be registrable in China since 2014 after the amendment of the China Trademark Law. Therefore, background music of computer games, start or ending songs of programs, musical advertisements, etc. can all seek protection by the Trademark Law. With this sound mark as a beginning, we may expect more sound marks to be registered in China.
